Putting rumors to rest, French actor Olivier Martinez confirmed to Miami Herald on Saturday that he and Halle Berry were firmly engaged and set to get married. “Yes, of course it’s true,” said Martinez to the media.
Martinez also set the record straight about the designer of the engagement ring Berry had been sporting since January. While previous unconfirmed reports had claimed the engagement ring to have been designed by Gurhan, Martinez clarified that the ring was designed by jeweler Robert Mazlo from Paris. He told the media that the Mazlo jewelers have designed jewelry for “kings and queens for many centuries.”
Berry and Martinez grew close and began dating each other in 2010 while working on the film “Dark Tide.” The film is slated for release this year.
For Halle Berry, 45, this would be her third marriage while for Martinez, 46, it would be his first.
Martinez has been previously involved in affairs with actress Mira Sorvino and singer Kylie Minogue.
Halle Berry, who won a Oscar for best actress for her role in “Monster’s Ball,” 2001, was married from 1993 to 1997 to former baseball player David Justice. Later, she married singer Eric Benet with the marriage lasting from 2001 to 2005. Martinez made the news public during her visit to Miami on the occasion of opening his South Beach Restaurant, Villa Azur.
Martinez’s previous Hollywood stints include roles in Before Night Falls, Unfaithful, and S.W.A.T. He rose to fame in French films with the release of Un, deux, trios, soleil (1993) and won the Cesar Award for “Most Promising Actor.”
Halle Berry shot to fame with “Introducing Dorothy Dandrige,” for which she received an Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG, and an NAACP Image Award. Berry is a Revlon spokeswoman and one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood.
