Well, some people never learn to read. And after recent research showing racists to be less intelligent than tolerant people on an average, what more could you expect from the makers of these comments who never cared to read that the three major characters in the series had dark skin color.
While the books never specifically use any racially distinguishing terms associated with their characters, the description of the characters shows them to be dark skinned:
“And most hauntingly, a twelve year old girl from District 11. She has dark brown skin and eyes …”
“The boy tribute from District 11, Thresh, has the same dark skin as Rue…”
However, some fans have been very upset that the characters in the film – Rue, Thresh, and Cinna, are black.
Here are some incredibly stupid comments from diehard fans of Hunger Games on Twitter:
Cliff kigar: “Sense when has Rue been a nigger”
Lola: “Naturally Thresh would be a black man.”
Jashper paras: “Kk call me racist but when I found out rue was black her death wasn’t as sad.”
Mandy Till: “did you cry when rue died?” @xnappyboyx:”No … Was that the black guy?” “you wish we would cry over the black guy dying!” Imfaooo,”
Maggi Mcdonnell: “why does rue have to be black not gonna lie kinda ruined the movie.”
Mari: “why did the producer make all the good characters black smh”
Tylerklose: “on the real though, rue was not supposed to be a little black girl.”
@EganMcCoy: “Awkward moment when Rue is some black girl and not the little blond innocent girl you picture.”
@johnnyknoxlV: “I was pumped about the Hunger Games. Until I learned that a black girl was playing Rue.”
@LexieBrowning: “And for the record, im still pissed that rue is black. Like you think she might have mentioned that …? Is that just me, or …”
Well not just you kid, there’s many like you who lack reading comprehension abilities. And the number seems to grow bigger by the hour.
