According to Motion Picture Association of America Chairman Chris Dodd, the fight against the Stop Online Piracy Act is not over just yet. Dodd recently said in an interview that the legislation against piracy is being revived once again but it is happening away from the public eye. Dodd said that the entertainment and technology industries ‘need to come to an understanding’ regarding the matter.
“I’m confident that’s the case,” said Dodd in regards to conversations going on right now, “but I’m not going to go into more detail because obviously if I do, it becomes counterproductive.”
In the same interview, Dodd said that the majority of people in the technology world (most notably internet users) do not comprehend “content and technology absolutely need each other.”
For the most part, this renewed attempt at revamping SOPA, or some legislation like it, does not come as a surprise to many in the technology or entertainment industries. SOPA fell to its supposed death back on January 20 and many insiders believed that it would resurrect in the future, which seems to be what is happening now as the fight rages on behind closed doors for SOPA or some piece of legislation like it.
