Deion Sanders Charged in Incident Involving Wife

As we reported earlier this week, the wife of Deion Sanders, Pilar, was arrested for a domestic violence incident at the couple’s home in the Dallas area. Now we have learned that Deion has also been cited in the case. Deion has been cited with a misdemeanor assault in the incident with his wife, who spent Monday night in jail. Pilar was charged with a misdemeanor assault. Pilar was arrested Monday afternoon. Deion had tweeted following the incident that his wife and one of her friends attacked him in his bedroom in the couple’s home, which is in Prosper. Deion also decided to post a picture on Twitter of his sons filling out a police report following the incident, which was taken down not long after it was posted.

After the police further investigated the incident it was deemed that the former NFL player needed to be charged in the incident but the charge did not call for an arrest. A police spokesperson for the Prosper police department said that the charge filed against Deion is for any act considered aggressive. This includes pulling away from a person’s grip or even jerking another person’s arm. Authorities said that the charge filed against Deion comes with a $500 fine.

Deion decided to file for divorce from Pilar back in December but the couple decided to still live together but in separate areas of the house. The divorce order is under seal and both Deion and Pilar are under gag order as well. The attorney for Deion, Rick Robertson, said that he does not think Deion’s tweets violated the gag order for the divorce.

“The assault action that occurred was a criminal action that also constitutes family violence,” Robertson said. “Pilar Sanders was arrested for that and jailed.”

Robertson did say that Deion is regretful for publicly airing the problem with his wife for all to see and for his children to see. Deion currently works for the NFL Network as an analyst. Pilar said that Deion’s claims against her are false and the public is taking Deion’s side because of his public status.
