NFL legend Junior Seau has been found dead at his apartment on May 2nd with a supposedly self-inflicted gunshot wound. Seau’s girlfriend who saw Seau alive in the morning found him bleeding from his chest upon returning from her morning workout at a local gym. She immediately called 911. Oceanside police reported that Seau’s body was first discovered by his girlfriend.
Following the 911 call, authorities rushed to the spot and paramedics attempted to revive Seau. However, all efforts were unsuccessful. His body is now with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The case is currently being taken as a suicide. Seau was 43 years old and is survived by 4 children and an ex-wife. Seau’s mother was heartbroken on receiving the news and hysterically cried to God to take her and leave her son alone.
The day before his death, Seau sent text messages to his children saying “Love you.” None of them suspected that anything could have been wrong. All of them had responded to his text. The kids last met him about three weeks back.
Friends and people close to the NFL legend say that no one was aware of any signs of depression in recent weeks that he may have been under.
Though a gun has been found in the room, there is no suicide note yet discovered at the site of death. The suicide seems deliberate and preplanned.
Seau, who was known in the NFL for his explosive style, had played in the league close to 20 years. In 2010, Seau had a car accident when he drove his SUV off a cliff. Though he insisted that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, rumors persisted that he was trying to kill himself.
Following the tragic event, the San Diego Chargers released a statement saying, “Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now … We ask everyone to stop what they’re doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family.”
Seau is the 8th member of the 1994 San Diego Chargers team to die before the age of 45.
