The medical report for George Zimmerman following the incident with Trayvon Martin has been released by Zimmerman’s family physician. According to the report, Zimmerman was treated for a pair of black eyes, lacerations on the back of his head, a minor back injury and a ‘closed fracture’ of his nose. The report, which is three pages long, has been added to court documents that were made public by the state of Florida on Monday of this week. The documents released also include 911 calls, photos, non-emergency calls, video, hardcopy documents and medical records. The videos recently released include footage of the 7-Eleven store Trayvon was at prior to the shooting and footage from the neighborhood clubhouse where Martin was killed.

Zimmerman maintains that he shot Martin in self-defense and told law enforcement officers responding to the incident that Martin punched him in the face and slammed his head on the sidewalk after climbing on him. Police responding to the incident found Zimmerman at the scene with a swollen lip, a bloody nose and cuts on the back of his head. Zimmerman refused a trip to the hospital after paramedics treated him. Zimmerman then acquired treatment the next day. Zimmerman could be facing federal hate crimes along with the second-degree murder charge for killing Martin.

Zimmerman could be sentenced to life in prison if he is convicted of second-degree murder of Martin. Should Zimmerman be convicted of a federal hate crime, he could be eligible for the death penalty.

“What the government would have to prove is that Mr. Zimmerman acted out of hatred toward African Americans,” said WFTV legal analyst, Bill Sheaffer. “That’s why he came into contact with him. That’s why he shot and killed him.”

Witnesses from the neighborhood are being questioned by FBI officials but they cautioned that the ‘hammer won’t be dropped’ anytime soon on Zimmerman. Eric Holder, the U.S. Attorney General, called Martin’s killing a ‘tragedy’ back in April. Holder also said that the Justice Department would act if evidence was found that the civil rights of Martin were violated during the incident.

Martin was killed by Zimmerman on February 26 in the neighborhood where his father’s girlfriend lives. The neighborhood is in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman called a 911 dispatcher to describe a suspicious person leaving the 7-Eleven. Zimmerman followed Martin and shot him following an altercation with the teen. Zimmerman told responding officers that he shot Martin in self-defense.
