Mitt Romney has pledged to repeal Obamacare but has said that those who do not have health insurance should not worry that they will die because of it.

“We don’t have people that become ill, who die in their apartment because they don’t have insurance,” Romney stated during an interview with the editorial board of the Columbus Dispatch on Wednesday.

It is very difficult to pinpoint the number of people who die year to year because of a lack of health insurance but there is a study that claims that number is at 26,000 deaths per year.

“We don’t have a setting across this country where if you don’t have insurance, we just say to you, ‘Tough luck, you’re going to die when you have your heart attack,'” Romney said during the interview. “No, you go to the hospital, you get treated, you get care, and it’s paid for, either by charity, the government or by the hospital.”

During an interview with “60 Minutes” on CBS back in September, Romney pretty much said the same thing. Romney said, “We do provide care for people who don’t have insurance. If someone has a heart attack, they don’t sit in their apartment and die. We pick them up in an ambulance, and take them to the hospital, and give them care.”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2011, close to 49 million Americans did not have health insurance. This number comes out to about 4 out of every 25 Americans. If Obamacare is repealed, 30 million Americans would not have access to health insurance like they would have with health care reform.
