Cooley Adds Two IP Lawyers from Chadbourne & Parke

The Cooley Law Firm’s New York office has gained two intellectual property lawyers from the firm of Chadbourne & Parke. Beginning today, the two lawyers are now partners at Cooley. Walter Hanchuk is formerly the chair of the intellectual property department at Chadbourne and John Kheit is formerly the head of the mobile technology practice at Chadbourne, according to Reuters.

Hanchuk is now the head of the intellectual property practice in New York for Cooley. Cooley is headquartered in Palo Alto and has 650 lawyers in 11 offices across the globe. Chadbourne is headquartered in New York and has 400 lawyers in 12 offices across the globe.

Chadbourne has lost multiple intellectual property lawyers the past couple of years. John Squires left in September to join Perkins Coie. Squires was the co-chair of Chadbourne’s intellectual property department. John Hintz left the firm to go to Haynes and Boone this past February. In 2008, Joseph Calvaruso left the firm for Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.

“We will continue to build out our IP practice, responding to our clients’ needs and keeping pace with the fast-moving global intellectual property market,” said a Chadbourne spokesman in a statement.

A spokeswoman from Cooley said that 15 associates and support staff from Chadbourne joined Cooley with Hanchuk and Kheit.
