Custom officials in Germany had seized Bieber’s capuchin monkey last week, when the teenage pop sensation failed to produce health and species protection certificates required to bring such animals into the country.
German authorities said that Bieber’s pet monkey, “Mally” is about 14 weeks old, and had been taken away from its mother too early. Currently, Mally is receiving veterinary care.
Bieber is currently visiting Munich on a concert and is on his tour.
Mally was seized at the Munich Airport, and Munich customs office has given a four-week deadline to Bieber to produce the required papers, if he wants Mally back.
The Munich-Riem animal shelter, which is currently taking care of Mally told media, “If he doesn’t (present the papers), Mally will be taken to a good animal shelter that has experience rearing groups of young capuchin monkeys and can ensure disoriented Mally becomes a healthy little capuchin.”
However, Mally is apparently having a good rest and has earned a number of fans. A post on the animal shelter’s website, as translated by eonline, mentioned, “Mally is the cutest 14-week-old monkey…”
Munich’s customs office said that decision to keep Mally at its current shelter or to move it elsewhere would be taken after the four-week deadline issued to Bieber.
Possibly, besides requiring to produce the papers for Mally, Bieber may also have to pay a fine.
