On Thursday, San Diego plaintiff’s law firm Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd announced on their website that former U.S. Attorney Jerry Martin will be joining Robin Geller. Martin, who worked as the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, is known for prosecution of health-care fraud and was also the co-chair of the U.S. Attorney General’s health-care fraud working group. During his tenure as U.S. Attorney, Jerry Martin had handled numerous high-profile cases including cases of identity theft, civil rights violations, corporate fraud and public corruption.

Martin will be joining the Whistleblower Practice Group and Health-Care Fraud Task Force of Robin Geller. The Whistleblower Practice Group of the law firm already has four former federal prosecutors and a support team of forensic accountants and certified fraud examiners.

The law firm said that as a member of the Health-Care Fraud Task Force, Martin will expand the firm’s efforts to eliminate and expose Medicare and Medicaid fraud. In recent years, the Health-Care Fraud Task Force of the firm has been successful in recovering $925 million for UnitedHealth shareholders, as also recovering $600 million for Cardinal Health shareholders.

Before becoming a federal prosecutor, Martin used to represent plaintiffs in complex civil litigation.

Lanny A. Breuer, who was the former Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, welcomed Martin’s arrival to the firm and remarked, “Whether it was prosecuting and dismantling dangerous gangs in Nashville or combating health-care fraud through enforcement actions, Jerry distinguished himself as one of the nation’s top prosecutors.  In particular, Jerry made a name for himself pursuing whistleblower claims and I know with the resources of Robbins Geller behind him, he’ll be a significant force in that field in private practice.”

On his part, Martin commented, “I’m thrilled to join a firm with a record of success and a proven commitment to fighting for victims of corporate fraud.”
