Greenberg Traurig LLP, a well-known law firm for intellectual property, business disputes, carbon credits, class actions, corporate and securities, and American Indian law is giving new leadership responsibilities to Ernest Greer at the Atlanta office of the law firm.
Greer is a shareholder at the law firm, and has been promoted to vice president. According to an April 2013 article in the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Greer is a managing shareholder of one of Atlanta’s largest law firms, and as vice president, he will be one of the eight officers at the law firm. Greer has had press on his success in participating in the Atlanta office of Greenberg Traurig to more than 100 lawyers according to an article in the Atlanta Business Chronicle in 2012.
Greer has taken part in shaping the internationally known law firm’s strategic position. Greer is known for efforts in obtaining business from Georgia’s brand name businesses and governmental entities. He guides companies through complex negotiations, and was selected as chairman-elect (2014) of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
Besides transactional work, Greer stays up to speed in litigation with an active litigation caseload where he represents clients in high-profile cases throughout the United States. He has mediation expertise, which is a helpful background to have for a lawyer when litigation involves obtaining strategic wins, rather than wins at all costs, for clients. He serves on the boards and committees for various organizations, including the Center for Civil and Human Rights and the Atlanta History Center.
Greenberg Traurig is a Miami-based firm with around 1,750 lawyers in 36 offices. Six of the prestigious firm’s offices are outside of the United States.

In his new role, Greer will work with other members of the firm to penetrate into more business opportunities in the firm’s practice areas. The firm assists various industries including advertising, energy, and hospitality.
Greer will be co-managing in the Atlanta office with Ted Blum. Blum has a corporate and securities practice. He handles mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. Blum represents buyers and sellers in the structuring of complex mergers and divestitures of public and privately held businesses. Blum has worked on leveraged buyouts, stock redemptions, and acquisitions of financially troubled companies. Blum has been with the Greenberg Traurig for 13 years.
The promotion will let Greer take on new international responsibilities and local civic roles. As the 2014 chair of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Greer is the second African-American to serve with the Chamber of Commerce as chair.
According to Atlanta Business Chronicle: “Ernest has done a tremendous job,” reported Matt Gorson, co-chairman of Greenberg Traurig. Gorson recently served as president of the law firm. Gorson is the firm’s president and has a real estate practice.
Greenberg Traurig set foot on the Atlanta market in 1998 when it bought the entertainment law firm of Joel Katz. The firm has around 100 lawyers in the Atlanta office.
