Court Documents Reveal Injuries to Boston Bomber

According to newly released information from court documents Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the alleged Boston bomber had injuries before his capture, including a gunshot to the face, and a skull fracture. 19 year old Tsarnaev was caught in a shootout with police three days after the marathon bombs exploded in Boston, according to USA Today. While Dzhokhar Tsarnaev initially had escaped by car, there days later he was found hiding in a boat in Watertown, Mass the next morning.

27 year old Tamerlan was killed in a shootout with the police. The two brothers were searched for as police and authorities believed they perpetrated the Boston Marathon attack, which killed three people, injured more than 250 people, and used homemade pressure cooker bombs.

The surgeon Stephen Ray Odom treated Tsarnaev at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The surgeon testified as to the wounds, including multiple gunshot wounds to the face, skull fracture, vertebral injury, and other minor injuries including broken bones and tendons.

Dzhokar Tsarnaev has pleaded not guilty to bomb related charges in the 30 count federal indictment. On April 15, two pressure cooker bombs exploded at 2:49 pm near the Boylston Street finish line at the Boston Marathon. The FBI started the investigation and identified suspects Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev. After images of the suspects were released by the FBI, the brothers allegedly killed an MIT police officer, carjacked and SUV, and started a gunfight. Tamerlan was run over by his brother Dzhokhar who was escaping. The city of Watertown was shut down and a manhunt ensued as citizens faced a curfew.

Dzhokhar was interrogated in the hospital and said that Tamerlan planned every detail, and that they were radicalized by Islamist extremists and were unconnected to outside groups. He said they learned to make online bombs from the Internet.  While still in the hospital, Dzhokhar was charged with using a weapon of mass destruction and causing multiple deaths.
