Senior Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals of the D.C. Circuit, Judge Douglas Ginsburg has joined George Mason University School of Law as a full-time faculty member. Along with the senior judge, Damien Geradin, a partner from Brussels based Covington & Burling was also recruited. The dean of George Mason University School of law commented, “both are remarkably accomplished, internationally visible, and experienced scholars and teachers of antitrust law.” The dean went on to say that students of the George Mason University School of Law will have “ one of the most powerful competition law faculties of any law school in the United States” at their disposal.
Judge Ginsburg was appointed to the D.C. Circuit in 1986, where he was chief judge from July 2001 to February 2008. Judge Ginsburg famously wrote an opinion overturning the conviction of a nightclub owner who was convicted of conspiring to sell cocaine, after the FBI put a GPS device on the nightclub owner’s vehicle. Ginsburg believed and wrote that the action taken by the FBI violated the fourth amendment. The case went before the Supreme Court, and the judges there upheld Ginsburg’s opinion. Judge Ginsburg has taught at the New York University of Law.
Damien Geradin practice focuses on EU competition law, intellectual property and antitrust. According to the Legal Times, Geradin has experience as a former faculty member at the University of Michigan Law School.
