Ignorance and homophobia are increasing more and more these days. In Bridgewater, New Jersey, a waitress who served in the Marines was denied a tip because of her “gay lifestyle,” according to The Huffington Post. The former soldier, Dayna Morales, introduced herself to a family at The Gallop Asian Bistro and received an offensive response. With Dayna’s extremely short hair the mother of the family commented, “Oh I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan. You sure surprised us!” The family, including two children, failed to leave a tip for Morales after eating a ninety-three dollar meal. On the receipt was a note that said, “I’m sorry, but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life.” What would that family have done if someone told them, “I cannot serve your meal because I do not agree with your straight lifestyle?” They would likely make a scene. How did Morales handle the situation? She went to the gay friendly blog “Have a Gay Day” and posted, “I am THOROUGHLY offended, mad, pissed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free.”
Recently a bakery owner denied a lesbian couple a wedding cake because she claimed she was “Christian.” Negativity and discrimination aren’t very Christian-like values. There have also been other reported incidents of gay bashing restaurant receipts and it seems like, sadly, it’s all going to get worse.
