Reports surfaced this week that the popular duo from the 1970s, The Captain & Tennille, are getting divorced. The Captain, Daryl Dragon, and Cathryn Antoinette “Toni” Tennille, have been married for 39 years.
Toni filed for divorce on January 16 in Prescott, Arizona, according to People. Prior to meeting Toni, The Captain was a keyboardist for the Beach Boys.
The duo released their first album in 1974 and won a Grammy just one year later. In 2010, Tennille posted on her blog that The Captain was suffering from an issue very similar to Parkinson’s disease.
She said that he suffers tremors and has trouble playing the keyboard. “Many of you know he is dealing with a neurological condition (not Parkinsons, but something similar) that causes him to have tremors … pretty severe at times … that interfere with his ability to play keyboards. Some days he does pretty well…other days his playing is severely compromised. His condition is exacerbated by any kind of stress, and worrying about his ability to play has made his condition worse.”
According to court records, Tennille claimed that their marriage is “irretrievably broken and there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation.”
She has requested that her and The Captain split community property, but that neither receive spousal support.
