Local Staten Island residents are reporting seeing a creepy mysterious looking clown roaming around the streets and it’s keeping everyone on edge.
Pictures and videos are being posted on social media of a person dressed up like a clown, with a yellow clown suit, red shoes and a mask. According to the Staten Island Advance, the clown wanders around at night, holding balloons and waving to cameras. The creepy clown has been spotted near the Richmond Valley and Grasmere train stations at night.
He’s also been seen during the day, in front of a Chinese restaurant on Richmond Avenue, according to the Advance and online posts.
“I wish I was joking dude, it scared the heck out of me,” Michael Levy posted on his Instagram photo of the clown behind a tree at night. “I thought it was like some dummy or cardboard standup thing at first until he pointed at me.”
There were many others who reported being just as terrified. “I just got freaked out coming home from the studio in Tottenville,” musician Vin Innocente posted on Instagram, with a picture of the clown waving in front of a detour sign.
The Staten Island Borough President said on Twitter, “I reference Krusty the Clown in a tweet last week & now all hell is breaking lose,” he wrote. “And they say BPs have no power.” Last year, a 22-year-old college student and filmmaker was seen in the small British town of Northhampton, dressed like a clown from the Stephen King book and film “It,” so Staten Island isn’t the first place to have a creepy mysterious clown roaming around.
Sightings go back as far as earlier this month and reports say there’s only been a handful of sightings, but the clown has a lot of people scared for their lives.”This Staten Island clown guy roaming around…has me locked in my house with all my sharp objects near me JUST IN CASE,” @moeownzyourface posted on Twitter.
