Apple Inc. has accused Samsung Electronics Co. of copying key features of the iPhone in creating its own lines of smartphones. According to The Indian Express, Samsung Electronics has countersued, claiming that two of its patents were infringed on.

Apple Inc. won infringement findings on three of its five patents that were an issue in the case. Jurors also found that Apple had infringed on one of two Samsung patents at issue and awarded $158,000 in damages to the maker of Galaxy smartphones. Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics have fought battles across four continents to dominate a market that was valued at $338.2 billion last year, according to data that was compiled by Bloomberg.

During the month-long trial, Apple Inc. accused Samsung of violating patents on smartphone features. A lawyer for the Samsung Electronics Co. said that they will challenge the jury’s $120 million award to Apple Inc. in a patent-infringement verdict that was “unsupported by evidence,†according to a report by Bloomberg News.

John Quinn, a lawyer for Samsung Electronics Co, said in a statement that the company will ask the trial judge and an appeals court, if necessary, to reduce the damages awarded by the jury May 2 and yesterday to zero, according to Bloomberg News.

In 2012, a previous jury ordered Samsung Electronics to pay Apple Inc. $930 million after determining that some two dozen older-generation Samsung products had contained features that were copied from Apple.

Samsung’s phones run on the Android mobile operating system developed by Google Inc. During trial, according to Fox Business, Samsung pointed out that some of the features that Apple Inc. claims to own were actually invented by Google, and called a handful of Google executives to testify on its behalf. A spokeswoman for Cupertino, California-based Apple, Kristin Huguet, did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment on John Quinn’s statement.
