Intellectual Property Team from Ballard Spahr Joins BakerHostetler

National law firm, BakerHostetler (Baker & Hostetler LLP ) has announced yet another addition to its team after joining forces with intellectual property (IP) law firm Woodcock Washburn, and taking its IP practice to 140 lawyers. The most recent addition is that of a three-member IP group to the firm’s Atlanta office.

The three-member IP group joining BakerHostetler ‘s Atlanta office from Ballard Spahr LLP includes Katrina Quicker who joined as Partner and Michael Riesen and Jason Grier who joined as Associates. They will be key members of the Life Sciences and Electrical, Mechanical, and Computer Science Prosecution and Litigation teams.

Partner Quicker focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation before federal district and appellate courts, as well as before tribunals such as the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). The J.D. from The University of Toledo College of Law currently serves as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia for intellectual property matters, and has litigated nearly 50 patent infringement cases throughout the country.

Associate Michael Riesen focuses his practice on patent prosecution, including preparing patent applications, opinion work, international and domestic filings, and preparation of briefs and pleadings. He also has significant experience in intellectual property due diligence and the post-grant review process, including the preparation of inter partes review petitions. He too earned his J.D. from The University of Toledo College of Law, where he served as President of the Intellectual Property Society and Student Bar Association.

Associate Jason Grier focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation across a wide range of technologies, primarily practicing before federal district courts and administrative tribunals such as the PTAB and the TTAB. Previously, Grier held an in-house counsel position for a startup biotech company and worked in the lab of renowned antiviral researcher Dr. Raymond F. Schinazi at Emory University. The J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law has been an associate editor of the Georgia State University Law Review.
