The gun debate continues to rage in the United States and is atop the news once again following the deadly rampage in Isla Vista, California last weekend, according to The Huffington Post. The shooting left seven dead and 13 wounded. Many people used Twitter to discuss the tragedy, including comedian and actor Patton Oswalt, who said the following:
“That the phrase “latest shooting” exists should HORRIFY us. But we’ve become used to it. Which is…horrifying.”
The Onion entered the discussion about the shooting with the following headline:
â€No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens
The Onion is no stranger to shocking headlines. They have used the following in response to recent gun violence:
“Nation Celebrates Full Week Without Deadly Mass Shooting (UPDATE: Never Mind)” and “Desperate Nation Tries Getting On Board With Mass Shootings”Â
The article discussed how it seems as though there is no way possible to stop the mass shootings that occur in the United States. In fact, The Onion presented a frightening fact:
“At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past five years were referring to themselves and their situation as ‘helpless.'”
