Good Morning! So last night I didn’t get home until 8:30… Not cool. This late-night class thing is going to seriously mess me up. I was exhausted so I had an apple, some Greek yogurt with honey and frozen raspberries, and tried out Chocolate Covered Katie’s single serving peanut butter cookie (pretty good…).
This morning I had a 3-mile run before yoga scheduled, but I ran 3 miles during my intervals yesterday, my knee was hurting, and I just knew I needed a break and an hour to get some things together! So I skipped the run and headed off to my Hot Yoga Class at Core Power Yoga, where I have a month-long Groupon.
When I got back, it was time for a much needed shower and breakfast! On the menu today was a Peach Banana Smoothie!

In the mix: 1/2 peach, 1 whole frozen banana, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 cup spinach, 1 T Flax, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 packet Truvia sweetener.

And some Kashi Puffs to mix in!

went back for the rest of the peach, it was so good!

Recently, I wrote about an article from Livestrong.com about what healthy eating means to different people. I came across this article on Huffington Post, where food trends are discussed as to whether they are rising or falling. In the author’s opinion, some of the rising food trends are local food, juice cleanses, elevation of vegetables, nose to tail (using the whole animal) and saturated fats (like coconut oil).

He did discuss that organic food is a fall trend, due partly to its existence for about 10 years but more due to the unemployment numbers and the cost of buying organic. He also said the Paleo diet, where you eat like a cave man (mostly meets and fats, some vegetables and fruits, and very few grains or dairy), is falling since it appealed mainly to men and never had a strong mainstream following.
In regards to veganism, he calls it a “trend flat”, meaning that it’s not rising or falling since those who are dedicated to the lifestyle have already become vegans and few others have been joining in since. He also puts gluten-free on a “trend flat” because those who do not have celiac disease and are allergic to gluten merely claim to “feel better”.
I find diet trends to be very interesting because they change constantly, yet people always seem to jump on the bandwagon. Remember the Atkins diet? There was a huge phase of time where everyone was afraid of carbs, but now we’ve realized that carbs are good for you, as long as their whole grain and not refined. Personally, I think its best just to eat as naturally and chemical-free as possible and be sure to have a nutrient-rich well-balanced diet that works best for you! Although going gung-ho in one particular direction may be necessary for some people, whether you have a gluten allergy, feel strongly about animal rights, etc., it’s not right for everyone and is often very impractical to our lifestyles.
What do you all think about diet trends? Have you ever been stuck on one?
