Summary: One suspect arrested in the murder of a local grocery store manager was able to escape the jail after being transported back from the hospital.
Capital murder suspect Austin Hill escaped from the Ouachita County Detention Complex Wednesday afternoon in south Arkansas. Hill had been transported back to the jail after receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital for a broken hand when he was able to escape.
Hill was not fully shackled because of his injured hand. He managed to get his leg shackles off during the van ride so that when the door was opened, he able to get loose and run into a nearby wooded area next to a lumber yard. Officials found his orange jump suit in the wooded area.
Nineteen-year-old Hill was arrested last December for the murder and aggravated robbery of a Camden city Mac’s Fresh Food Market manager, Richard Anders. Anders was walking to his car with the bank deposit when he was shot once in the chest. Investigators allege that Hill and another suspect took the $13,000 deposit. An employee of the grocery store, Jaquestin Anderson, was also arrested and charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery.
He is still awaiting trial for the charges and was supposed to have a hearing for his case today. He is considered dangerous and could possibly have an Ace bandage on his hand. Police have been searching the nearby woods, parks, and neighborhoods as they follow leads on any possible sightings.
